Another organization we are partnering with is Habitat for Humanity. We are joining together to provide furniture to two families that Habitat recently built homes for in our very own community in Forsyth County. They received the keys to their homes on July 25th and we will deliver their furniture on July 31st.
We are providing the following items for each family.
Bridgette Tellex - sofa, loveseat, coffee table, 2 dressers, and night stand.
Tishawna Loving - full bed, bedding, 2 night stands, love seat, coffee table, 2 end tables, 2 lamps, desk w/chair.
We’d love for you to read their stories below!
Although not born in Georgia, single mother, Bridgette Tellex considers herself a native Georgian. Originally from New York State, her family relocated to Cumming, Georgia when she was a young girl. In recent years, Bridgette and her son Blake found themselves moving frequently. At this point in time, she knew that in order to raise her son successfully, she would need to find a stable and safe home-life.
Her son, Blake was her primary motivation to secure a better future for their family. Bridgette committed to participating in the structured Family Promise program, which furnishes struggling families with a safe and nurturing environment in which to stay temporarily until permanent housing is available. Additionally, during this time families are able to have the opportunity to create a savings cushion, allowing time to save the much needed funds for future more permanent housing costs.
Bridgette brings a great deal of passion to her work as a Certified Medical Assistant. She loves her patients and plans to continue her education in order to further her career. Blake is currently 11 years old. He loves playing outdoors with friends. He also enjoys reading, watching movies, and playing video games. While in school, he most enjoys math and science, both of which subjects he is enrolled in advanced courses. Faith is an important part of their lives, they have attended Freedom Tabernacle Church in Cumming for over 15 years. Bridgette and Blake are confident that God has led them to Habitat for Humanity-NCG.
Tishawna Loving grew up in New York City living in four of the five city’s boroughs and moving frequently. She started working at age 14 and often questioned her life’s purpose. It was a tough life.
When her son, Kylil was born, she happily realized her purpose. Her goals to obtain a GED and complete training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant were achieved. Her second child, Kyla came along a few years later. The high rents in New York led the small family to a few different shelters along the way.
In 2016, Tishawna made the decision to move to Georgia. Her sister already lived here and took the family in for a while. Sadly, the children’s father suddenly passed away in 2017. The family has been through so much and securing affordable housing in Georgia has also been a challenge.
Tishawna works for Northside Forsyth Hospital as a Patient Care Technician caring for the basic needs of patients. She is pursuing a nursing degree through Georgia Gwinnett College with plans to graduate in 2021. Kylil just graduated from high school, while Kyla will be entering her junior year this fall.
The family is grateful to God and Habitat for Humanity-NCG for paving the way for a new home for them. They are encouraged to know the children’s father is on this journey with them from heaven. The Loving Family looks forward to a fresh start in 2020 with a new home in Forsyth County.
